In 2027, however, a large part of February falls during Ramadan (expected to begin on 8 February). That changes everyday life on the island noticeably, but it does not make your trip worse – just different.

How Zanzibar feels in February
February is the quiet star among the months. The days are long and sunny, the water is crystal clear, and the big holiday crowds from Europe have gone. Many couples come exactly now: for a honeymoon, a milestone birthday or simply to escape the grey February at home. More in Honeymoon in Zanzibar.
Ramadan in February 2027: what it means for you
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on 8 February and end around 8 March; the exact date depends on the sighting of the moon. Zanzibar is predominantly Muslim, and many people fast during the day.
- Many local restaurants in Stone Town only open after sunset. Hotels and beach restaurants in the holiday resorts are open as usual.
- During the day, do not eat, drink or smoke conspicuously in public, and keep your shoulders and knees covered when walking through the villages.
- The evenings come alive: after breaking the fast (iftar), streets and food stalls fill up – especially beautiful in Stone Town.
